Donald Trump represents a highly debated figure in modern politics. During his initial term as President, global perceptions of safety remained relatively stable, and his administration did not initiate any new military conflicts. However, Trump’s approach is frequently marked by divisive rhetoric and behaviour, contributing to significant social and political polarisation. He faced impeachment on two occasions and has encountered numerous legal challenges that critics assert raise questions regarding aspects of his character.
In contrast, the Democratic Party has distanced itself from its traditional voter base. This phenomenon is exemplified by recent comments made by former President Barack Obama, who appeared to dismiss the viewpoints of intelligent Black men expressing hesitancy in supporting Kamala Harris, the current Vice President. Their reluctance was rooted primarily in policy concerns rather than gender dynamics. These individuals articulated their perspectives via social media, contending that President Obama mischaracterised their voting motivations, underscoring that he does not assume a paternal role for them. Central to their dissatisfaction was the perceived lack of clear and actionable policies emanating from the Democratic Party, which they believe has contributed to their hesitance in supporting Democratic candidates.
The most recent electoral cycle revealed a significant increase in support from people of colour, particularly among Black and Latino men. Approximately 20 percent of Black male voters supported Trump, marking a notable increase from prior elections. Furthermore, nearly 47 per cent of Latino men cast their votes in favour of him, indicating a pronounced rise in support.
In contrast to the Democratic Party, a considerable segment of the American electorate favoured Trump due to his economic policies, including tax reductions and deregulation, which were perceived as beneficial to their circumstances. Many voters articulated that the Democratic Party has failed to fulfil its commitments to minority communities. Trump’s stances on immigration and law enforcement resonated with particular constituents who felt marginalised and unsupported in their pursuit of the American dream. Trump must deliver results for all Americans, supporters and non-supporters alike.
